Until recently I hadn’t paid much attention to Skullcandy’s headphones and headsets—the company’s focus on extreme sports, punk- and hip-hop-inspired aesthetics, and too-clever product names (case in point: “Smokin’ Buds”) suggested I might not be in the target audience.

We tested two models from Skullcandy, the 50/50s and the Fix. These 50/50s, the cheaper of the two, are sort of half way between in-ear headphones and traditional earbuds, and they provide decent sound for a decent pricetag ($50).

The 11mm drivers provide a richer audio experience than other buds under $50, but they've got other issues.

Great All Around Buds

Out of the box, these earbuds delivered deep, pumping bass, but also left the treble intact. Sometimes, earbuds with deep bass muddy the mids and treble. These do not what-so-ever. Incredible sound quality for a great price. Highly recommend.

Key Features

The 50/50 is like that dude that pulled a Nollie Big Heel in a button up – you don’t know what’s more impressive, his performance or his style. The half polycarbonate, half ABS finish with chrome detailing make this in-ear bud a low-profile beauty. Use the Mic3 to let the group know which park you’re at, or cue up some galvanizing tunes. Notice how the Attacking Bass, Natural Vocals, and Precision Highs deliver your audio at its purest – no matter the genre. True to its hybrid nature, the 50/50 is both connectivity and Supreme Sound for the masses.
